The Laurence Singers are joined by the choir of Altrincham C of E Primary for a
première performance of Roger Shelmerdine’s new work, on the eve of the
centenary of the World War One Armistice. Recalling events such as the tragic
sacrifice of The Accrington Pals and the experiences of women and children living
through devastating times, Shelmerdine’s remarkable composition is both heart-
breaking and uplifting. It is inspired by poetry and writing of the time, with a strong
music hall influence providing moments of dark humour.

Cliff Crewe: conductor
